Co-op Program

The Co-op Program of Shanan Community meets on Thursdays, August through May on the third floor of The People's Church in Franklin. It is strictly a home-schooling supplemental program and parent cooperative. Space in the program is limited.

Schedule

The day begins at 9:45 a.m. with Connection Time for all children, birth through sixth grade, and their parents. At 10:15, students move with their age group to two one-hour classes. Lunch is held from 12:15 - 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. another rotation of one-hour classes begins. Co-op ends at 3:00 p.m.

Parent Requirement

All moms are required to teach two hours each week and remain on campus the entire time your children are present. Moms are paired together to form teaching teams. In the classes for K-6th grade students, you will be asked to prepare a one-hour lesson in a specific subject area each week and will repeat that lesson twice for two different groups of children. Course assignments can be requested on the application but are not guaranteed.

Registration Requirements

  1. Having at least one home-schooled child in kindergarten through sixth grade.
  2. Enrolled with an umbrella program or the state of Tennessee (the Shanan co-op is a supplemental program only and does not constitute an umbrella program).
  3. Membership in MTHEA (www.mthea.org) for 2009-2010 (this is required before class registration can take place).
  4. Agreement and signature on statement of faith.
  5. Approval by co-op board after review of completed application.
